February 2, 2026) — Food Logistics, a leading publication for the global cold chain industry, has named Karl McDermott, chief SaaS officer at DeltaTrak, a 2026 Rock Stars of the Supply Chain award winner in the Leaders in Excellence category.

McDermott has spent a significant part of his career in the supply chain, with a recent focus on reducing food waste. At DeltaTrak, he expanded the company’s capabilities beyond temperature monitoring hardware into software and digital services that help operators act sooner and keep products fresher longer. He also helped launch the UBQ Network powered by DeltaTrak, a digital platform that connects real-time condition data, predictive shelf-life insights and services like insurance, inspections, finance and carbon reporting to give cold chain operators better, faster decisions.

“The fact that up to a third of the world’s food supply is wasted every year, much of it due to preventable issues like temperature swings, delays and poor visibility, is unacceptable and fixable,” said McDermott. “DeltaTrak helps extend shelf life and reduce food waste and food miles by giving suppliers and grocers clearer, earlier insight into product condition. I’m honored by this recognition and proud of the team and partners driving a more efficient, predictable and data-driven cold chain.”

This is the second time a DeltaTrak executive has been named a Rock Star of the Supply Chain. In 2024, DeltaTrak founder and CEO Fred Wu received a Lifetime Achievement award, highlighting the company’s continued influence and leadership across the industry.

“From cargo fraud and natural disasters to ever-changing food safety regulations and increase in tariffs and cost of goods, many of today’s supply chain leaders are faced with a number of challenges. But it’s their resilience, hard work, innovation and attention to quality, sustainability and food safety that separates these rock stars apart from everyone else,” says Marina Mayer, editor-in-chief of Food Logistics and Supply & Demand Chain Executive and co-founder of the Women in Supply Chain Forum.
